Australia

Vicki is a member of the PCAPS Steering Group, building on the experience she gained as a member of the WMO's WWRP Polar Prediction Project (PPP) Social and Economic Applications (SERA) Task Team and through the Year of Polar Prediction Southern Hemisphere (YOPP-SH), which concluded in 2023.

Vicki holds a BEnvSc (Hons) from the University of Adelaide and a BSc in Psychology (Hons) from the University of New England in Australia. Vicki is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Tasmania and a Policy Advisor in the Social Science and Service Policy team at the Bureau of Meteorology where she contributes to interdisciplinary research examining the communication of weather information, risk and uncertainty in Australian communities. Vicki previously worked for several years as a Senior Technical Officer Observer at Australia’s Antarctic and sub-Antarctic research stations.

Vicki’s psychological sciences PhD is a YOPP-endorsed project. Her research examines people’s behaviour, experiences, risk perceptions and weather-related decision-making to understand how people find and use weather information and the skills and knowledge they need to stay safe. Vicki is interested in how people plan, manage risk and make decisions for their outdoor activities and how we can help improve people’s skills and services to increase weather awareness and safety.
